For rthe techies in our little community I have a little gem to share with you. And for those of you interested in the Tom Tom RIDER & ONE there is something here for you too :-)

Items of electronic equipment used in the USA often require FCC approval.

To get approval the item must be submitted for testing. A Test report is written and lots of photos taken of the inside and outside of the unit. The schematic diagram and block diagram are also required.

Now the good bit .... In the USA there seems to be a lot of "freedom of information" stuff that has to be complied with. As a result the FCC have to make certain information available to the general public (us). That information can be read and downloaded from their web site. Some information is held back to protect new technology and intellectual copyright.

The Tom Tom GO series are FCC approved Twisted Evil

As a result there is lots of information on the FCC web site..... pictures, test reports and even the TTG500 block diagram and schematics 8)

The information is copyright and protected under intellectual copyright so you have to be careful what you do with it

To find the information and download it in pdf format use the serach engine found at the following address and enter the Grantee code (first 3 letters of the FCC approval No.). Then serach and you will see all of Tom Toms product approvals (except the GO Classic Crying or Very sad which I have Crying or Very sad )

Amongst the approvals you will find the ONE and RIDER entries with plenty of pictures Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I can't post thenm here as the Mods will probably delete them !

Enjoy......

As you can see with the GO 500 do not assume that if products are in the FCC database these products will be made available in North America... It's more of a placeholder "just in case"

Hi Tim,

You use the link I detialed to goto the official FCC site serch engine.

Enter S4L in the "Grantee" field.
Hit the "Search button at the bottom of the page

You should get a list of product approvals with the manufacturers details

Select one of the products by clicking on the rel;evant "Detail" button on the left of the list.

This will take you to a list of approval documents, test data, pictures etc and in the case of the TTG 500 ... the schematic :-)

To view the pdf's just click on the "View attachment" letterbox. The pdf will then download and appear on your pdf reader. Save it from there.

You could always "right click" on the letterbox and use the "Save target as" option bypassing the pdf viewer completely.

Hope this helps.

This FCC site has been very useful in my work but to date I haven't put much effort into finding the TTG. The site is a mine of information on the EMC profiles which is what I need.

You can look up your WiFi cards and computer bits as well :-)
