Hi guys,
As you may have guessed, I'm new at all things GPS! I've been running this pair around for the past few days, and obviously things are not going well!
I've managed the following- The BT 338 is fully charged and when switched on at the window it receives a fix - indicated by green flashing light. When I switch on the Bluetooth Manager on my iPAQ, the BT 338 flases the blue led as well - so all Ok there then I think.
I loaded the GPS CD into my PC, which kindly added GPSinfo to my iPAQ, from reading on this forum and the conflicting instructions I received I finally set the GPSinfo to COM8: Serial8 & Baud Rate 38400, but I have yet to see the iPAQ show anything in GPS info page - no satellites, date, time anything!
When I connect my iPAQ via Bluetooth, the Active Connections page shows the BT-GPS COM port in the Outgoing Connections section and nothing in the Incoming Connections section!
Bluetooth Settings has tab Serial Port info as Inbound COM Port as 8, & Outbound COM Port as 5 - I have been unable to alter these.
One further thing, when the Bluetooth connection is made, I can view the status and I have no transfer activity registered, subsequently the connection is generally lost after two minutes or so.

I'm now thoroughly confused and generally peeved off! Oh and I've just noticed that the serial No of my BT 338 is AAW000371 - have I just bought a 'ringer' or is it a dud?

Thanks

All is well. Your only mistake was to select COM8. You need the outgoing port - COM5.

Lutz

I'm afraid COM5 is not an option in GPSinfo!

All i've got is COM1: SER2410, COM2: IRDA2410, COM3: IrCOMM, COMM8: Serial8, & COM9: USB.

As I said "I'm stuck!"

Thanks

whatever that GPSInfo is, throw it away ;-)

Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Serial Port

Make sure "Enable Service" is checked and all other checkboxes are unchecked.

tap on "Advanced..." (you see your outgoing port again) and make sure the checkbox is not checked.

OK > OK > OK

Start > Programs > BT Connection Manager

tap and hold your receiver, tap "connect", verify the icon turns green

Now start your GPSprogram and select COM5

Note: Make sure you don't have any old TomTom GPS drivers installed, they screw up with BT ports.

Lutz
GPSinfo is the program that came in the BT338 installation disc.
Instructions were clear, but I don't have an advanced in the Serial Port tab, the only advanced isin the About tab and that only contains module versions.
I don't have a connection manager program, unless I can download one!

Thanks for help

see if you have a \windows\btconnmanagerce.exe program on the PDA

What version of the BT stack are you running? Did you apply the latest ROM upgrade for your PDA?
