Bluetooth GPS advice please

Having just been given one of these bluetooth GPS units as listed here

I find myself with some questions about it which I would appreciate help with please:

I did not get given any manuals or CD's with it and from what I've read I should charge the battery for 8 hours or more, than remove the battery for 30 mins to reset the unit, is this correct?

At the moment I can get a signal in the house of 9 satellites, but outside I get nothing at all, should doing the above solve this?

I am using it with an Ipaq 4150, with the latest ROM flash of 1.10, can someone recommend software for this, I shall probably mainly use it in the car, but will also use it on foot as well. I have at the moment TomTom Navigator 4.40, if this is what I should be using, can someone advise what the latest compatible version is, and where I can purchase it?

I live in Edinburgh, but would be using the unit in both London and New York, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

I also have a 1gig SD card in the Ipaq, is it a good idea to put maps onto different cards, or is a 1gig card ok for the uses mentioned above?
