Hi. I've had a search around, but haven't really seen any clear-cut mention of which GPS "driver" is best selected with TomTom's GPS utility, for a Socketcom (it's really an Emtac) BTGPS receiver, on an iPAQ 3870.

I've tried Emtac Wireless GPS, NMEA0183v2 (at various baud rates), and SiRF Bluetooth. All seem to work (aside from the freezing problem where the TT GPS program seems to stop receiving data), and with no appreciable difference that I can see.

Does anyone have any strong viewpoint on this please?

TIA

There isn't much between the software drivers. If you want to make sure that the GPS uses the settings YOU want to set, eg NMEA 4800 baud, then use the NMEA driver. All the other drivers tend to do is talk to the GPS Receiver on what the manufacturer recommends. If it's recommend that SiRF 57600 is used, then this is what say the Emtac driver would use.

Persoanlly I find NMEA 4800 or Emtac Wireless driver work well with the Socket BT GPS.

If you believe the GPS isn't receiving data, or the Pocket PC isn't receiving data from the GPS, how long does it take ? If it's just a few minutes, you can check this yourself with WinFast Navigator by watching the NMEA streams come through, as you'll soon see when the NMEA data ceases.
