Having recently arrived back from my holiday in France, I thought I would share with other forum members my experiences of using the TomTom Go 300 abroad. The only word to accurately describe this product is “brilliant”. Jane took us around the most rural areas of France with hardly a hiccup. When I say rural, I do mean rural, even the Michelin map I took as a standby did not have some of the villages listed, and yet Jane took all this in her stride, I really am impressed with this product. Has anyone tried navigating Paris in the rush hour with the aid of a paper map? I don’t mind admitting that had I been left to navigate the Peripherique around Paris without TomTom and Jane then I would have had to send up flares to get me out. Only once did Jane get it wrong as she told me to “turn left” when I was some three hundred feet up driving across a new bridge spanning a deep gorge – not a good idea. Still in fairness the bridge was to new to be on the current mapping.

i would wholeheartedly agree. i took mine to france and it did a superb job of navigating to south brittany. all it took was 20 quid for a bigger memory card and then putting the major roads of europe onto it. once on the ferry i switched maps, typed in the town and tomtom did the rest.
thank god i didn't spend 100 quid on a france detailed map. it was bliss to have a big road trip abroad not spent arguing.

alas as my other post atests

- only problem is my car charger fried my tomtom on day 2 of holiday. still waiting for replacement as TomTom are disputing my warranty period since I didnt report it until back from holiday and that was just outside warranty. now want 50 euros which just seems a bit petty when apparently car chargers had known fault.
still i digress.

mcgroa: I know somebody who had exactly the same problem - fried TT and spurious demand via email for 50 Euros. In the end TT said that they made a mistake.

I actually did buy the street level map of France, and unlike you I thank God I did, well worth the £100, as the major roads only would not have been anywhere near detailed enough for the places I have visited. I will agree on the point you make about driving without all the arguments though, this product really does take the stress out of driving, and I think it should be recommended by all "Relate" counsellors.
