TomTom GO remote control rage?

I have a few questions about the TomTom GO remote control handset:

What functions does the remote control handset have power over, on the TomTom GO 500 and 700?
What’s the range of a TomTom GO remote control handset?
Does the GO and the remote control handset have to be paired, or can any remote operate any GO?

It’s just that I’ve see that there are a few TomTom GO 500/700 remotes for sale on eBay. I have visions of people on the motorways and in traffic jams using their TomTom GO remote control handset and operating the GO in the neighbouring car as well as their own GO.
