Just wondering if anyones seen a cracked copy of Co-Pilot 5 anywhere?

I'm NOT condoning cracking or hacking ANY software in any way here - I'm merely asking the question because Tom Tom 5 Mobile and Navigator versions have only just been released officially and within hours the first cracked versions were available for download from various places on the web.

It struck me that i've not seen a cracked version of Co-Pilot and a quick browse around the web turned up nothing either.

Obviously makes me wonder if it hasn't been cracked because the folks who do hack programs feel it's not worth the trouble. Or maybe cos ALK's protection is the only bit of their software that actually works properly

I would add that i'm NOT looking for links to cracked versions should anyone know the whereabouts of the files. I'm a paid up legitimate user of CP5.

The activation code algorithm we have is pretty good. I'm not saying it can't be cracked as everything in theory is possible to crack or decompile, but it's pretty strong.

I just hope that the reason for the lack of cracks realy is the good security rather than a lack of desire for the product; perhaps the security team could be seconded to bug fixes! (says me - tongue in cheek)

Just to say I quite like the product (yes I do) - it just sometimes takes a bit to work out how to get it to do what you want it to! (I will admit to quite a bit of user error too!)

I'd agree with you there Neil - when it works it's very good, I've just borrowed TomTom5 from a m8 and tried it for a couple of day before giving it back to him,

Much as it pains me to admit it TT5 is a big step backwards (IMHO anyway) even from TT3 and I actually prefer CP5 to TT5. That said I really like the new TT5 maps and auto zooming based on the speed you're travelling in TT5, but in terms of usability it's no better than CP5, (maybe thats because TomTom have removed the option to customise and rearrange the menu icons that was so nice in TT3)

I'd love to believe CP hasn't been hacked due to the encryption as well, but somehow I do doubt it. Just a little bit of hunting on the web revealed downloadable hacked copies of almost every other major pda sat-nav software with the notable exception of Co-Pilot. I'm sure some of them must have encryption/activation methods of a similar standard to ALK.

I would say that you are spot on there. Co-Pilot is actually very easy to copy and crack, yet TomTom 5 is by far the most sought after on the newsgroups.

Personally, I am sick of Co-Pilot telling me to 'bear left' and then trying desperately to work out whether it means:

    1. move one lane to the left
    2. move in to the furthest lane to the left
    3. take a left hand slip road
    4. take the left road at a fork
    5. the road bends left

When TomTom Mobile 3 can give you instructions such as 'move into the left hand lane', CoPilot just seems primitive.

And then of course there's the fact that Co Pilot can't re-route you around heavy traffic.
