Well I recently bought a PBT-111 GPS unit on ebay and was having problems getting a fix. I was told it might take a while so after several attempts I took it to cricket yesterday and it actually WORKED...

Great but it soon crashed (Tom Tom on my Nokia 6260 that is) when we were leaving to go home and now I can't get a fix again.

My question is that if you make a first "fix" it should then be quick to pick up again right Question

Has it lost it's fix coz of the crash or does the unit not save it Confused

TIA Dan Wink

Hi there
for all gps receivers there is a time for first fix after initial startup of the receiver
1 is a cold start
2 is a warm start and
3 is a hot start this is dependant on whether or not you turned the receiver off 10 secs ago or ten mins ago
as for the crashing of tt i cannot see this being down to your receiver but more likely just a glitch in your setup maybe Confused

Well I had the cold start (first fix) then I think it was a warm start when it crashed. Now I seem to have to do a first fix again Confused

I thought once you have done the first fix it saves it Question

tt does load up quicker after the initial setup of the application but if your chipset in the receiver is of a lower quality then time to first fix will always be slow especially on a cold start i have known it take up to 20mins with some receivers Confused
have you got tt up and running again without connection to the receiver?
also if its possible for you, could you leave the receiver on in your vehicle so its always on and then when you run tt it will make the connection as and when?

I've recently had to format my phone so Tom Tom has been removed and reinstalled.

I did run TT5 before I uninstalled it so it works but lost the fix. That took me about 10 mins in a field (in the middle of nowhere).

I will run TT5 again tomorrow and let you know. Thanx for the help Wink
