hello there, is anyone can help me here, I use TTN3 with Rikaline CF gps receiver, it works fine, there is always fixed signal about 4-5 sat, but since I updated to TTN5, the signal become very weak, only get 1-2 sat, and it's very easy to lost the signal. I know it's the gps driver problem, just wanna know are there any ways to fix this problem? thank you guys.

There has been a lot of discussion on the forum about CF GPS devices. Unfortunatly TT5 does not work well and the reports are all saying that there is a drastic loss of signal with CF devices. Sad

The only real solution is to change to wired of BT.

thanks for the help mate, so just wondering, is there any chance to only roll back the gps driver in TT5 to TT3 or use third party gps driver. thanks again!

Sorry but it is bad news again.

If you have activated TT5 then you will not be able to activate TT3 on the old code as you will have revoked your license. The only way of rolling back is if you have backed up the old copy and able to restore it.

Does this mean that we will have to wait for them to fix this in the next patch? 5.2? That's assuming that they even know about it and are even working on a fix.

I have been using a Globalsat BC307 CF receiver which would appear to have lost sensitivity with the TT5 drivers.

I have been in communication with TomTom, who were normally quick to reply, their last request was for the protocols my CF uses, I sent the reply straight away and it has taken exactly 4 weeks to respond so I assume they must have looked in some detail at the problem (wishful thinking perhaps?).

Anyway, yesterday I was told to do the following:

Quote:
Please remove the "TomTom bluetooth support" from start/settings/system/remove programs

This I have done, but am away from home (where the receiver is) at present so can't see if it cures the problem.

Gary

I believe that Tomtom do not support CF GPS receivers any more so there will be no fixes in the future.

so i'd have to have a bluetooth adaptor and a new gps for the latest software then. I like my cf gps as it's just plugged straight into the top of the pda, no hassle. take it where i want. tom tom can't shove it.

The GPS driver problem is not restricted to CF receivers. I have a wired GPS receiver and TT5 often loses signal for a couple of seconds in difficult locations where TT3 had no problem. Mapopolis and CoPilot also hold onto the signal in these locations

I find all of the discussion about TT5 not getting good signal where TT3 and other programs do quite interesting. I would have thought that the GPS device itself wouldn't be relying on the software reading it's output to determing how good a signal it's getting - my BT GPS can flash to say it has a lock when my PDA isn't even on, so it can't be relying heavily on the PDA to achieve a good lock.

If there is a problem with TT5 and GPS signal, I would have thought it's a protocol issue, so TT5 *thinks* there isn't as good a lock as there actually is.

Can anybody actually confirm what the actual situation is here?

Cheers,

Steve.

I'm sure you are right Steve. As you say, the GPS receiver itself can be locked on, independently of whether or not it's connected to a PDA. The variable is how effective the navigation software is at interpreting this data. And I think there is general agreement that TT5 is not as effective in this regard as TT3, CoPilot, Mapopolis etc. I'm sure TomTom could fix this if they set their minds to it, but it is probably connected with the memory hogging characteristics of TT5 - this is a major problem which TomTom have told Lutz Bendlin that they are trying to address.

Bob, I have the same receiver and same problems. Did this suggestion from TomTom help at all?

I've just tried the blue tooth support removal suggested and it's made a significant difference to the signal recieved from my Haicom CF GPS.

My TTN5 has gone from almost unusable to perfectly acceptable in one swift uninstall.
