UK Postcodes as a POI file?

I remember reading a Post a while back which was talking about having a POI file with all of the UK postcodes (sorry, can't find it anymore). I think this solution would be a great work around and I would definitely use it. So I started looking around for a database for UK post codes only to find that you have to buy the PAF database of 27 mil(?) postcodes from Consignia. It is possible to get small sections of the database, but that is not good enough.



Has anyone done any work on this?

Does anyone have a database of full postcodes that we can use?



Worst case, I can write something that posts all lat & long coordinates for the UK (incrementing by 0.0005 degrees or something) to the converter on Streetmap

capture the "nearest postcode" that is returned, remove duplicates and then use something like POIManager to make the POI file.
