different perception of ttn5 after 1500 miles use

I've now used ttn5 for 10 days, driven 1500 miles and have come to like the way it operates - I have even subscibed to traffic as it is now better integrated into the program.

After a number of problems (some I hope to see fixed in the first update - especially the vga wait at closure) I can say that it at least operates as a sat nav system rather well - it hasn't let me down or suffered bt dropouts etc once.

Today I installed my dads copy onto his 3850 ipaq and it really runs well on such an old machine. Install took 25 minutes including sorting the postcodes and installing the new data file, deleting bt support app and setting up the warnings.

I had no problems connecting to his gps mouse and he used it without any issues for a 40 mile drive.

The one thing that does bug me (still) is the setup of speeds - I drove 30 miles down the M11 this morning at between 70 & 80 mph and when I got off the motorway my journey time had increased by 2 minutes - am I really expected to average 85mph on a uk motorway?

If you look at the 'demo' the speed on the motorway is 75mph, so I guess this must be the speed the routing algorithms use.

I noticed your comments regarding settting up your dad's 3850. As you can see I have a 3830 (32MB RAM) instead of the 64MB on the 3850, and TTN3 runs perfectly.

I did install TTN5 but had great problems achieving and maintaining a decent sattelite fix so I reverted back to TTN3 for the moment. It's quite likely that my problems are related to compatability problems with my EMTAC GPS jacket which I hope will be addressed in a future update. I may even contemplate using a GPS mouse instead.

When you installed TTN5 on the 3850, did you remove all traces of TTN3 e.g. TT GPS etc or did you install over TTN3? Also did you perform a hard reset first?

I also notice that you removed BT support. Was this a simple delete from the directory? I wonder whether this component has been getting in the way on my system?

Your feed back would be useful.

I installed over the ttn3 installation.

the mouse is attached to a haicom powered mount and was picked up on com 1 - no noticable difference with ttn5 over ttn3. mouse is a haicom evermore chipset (not sure of the model no.).

One issue that is apparent is that the 3850 charing light goes off when ttn5 is running - it still powers the ipaq but doesn't charge it ( I have this on my dell as well).

To be honest TTN5 looks to run really well on the 3850 with the haicom mouse.

the tomtom bluetooth app was deleted using setting - delete programs in the main os menu structure. Also ttn5 is the only item on the ipaq - no contacts or appointments etc - a clean install 6 months ago for ttn3 with the new install over the top. Also the only items on the today screen are the tomtom logo and the date.

Ian, thanks for your swift response.

I am currently 'in communication' with TT support and they raised the issue as to whether I "had fully removed al traces of Navigator 3", which I haddn't since I installed 5 over the top of 3 the same as you. I am still waiting for an update though to my most recent response!

I may well try a clean install of 5 (it will at least save a bit of storage space as it will delete some TTN3 legacy bits) and remove the BT support.

I also had the 'charging light issue' which went blank whilst the system was trying to obtain a fix. How were you able to determine that the PDA was being powered externaly although not charging?

With a bit of luck TT will issue some updates to rectify some of these problems, which is why I went back to TTN3 for now.

I knew ir was being powered as after 3 hours it still had charge - approx the same amount as when I plugged it into the car mount.

same today with the dell - the charging light wasn't on whilst I drove 140 miles this morning and wasn't on for the rturn trip this afternoon - but I still have 78% battery left
