New user....huge problems....

Hello... I live in Sweden and I bougt TomTom Go on Ebay. The guy sends me only the unit (not even the charger) and no cds. I get only demo map of London and Copenhagen. ( I was suposed to get map of Scandinavia). How do i get appropriate software? I cant order anyting without activation code...And there is no way i can download maps and put them on my 256 MB SD so what do i do. I have tryed to contact him but his cell is off...I have bougt the chager and the thing works but i cant get any satelites. Do i need the right map first or should tomtom find them anyway. if you can help me in any way please write to muki111@hotmail.com

Oh man, this guy really screwed you... Most probably you will have to buy the maps again.

The GPS however should work also without the right map - are you trying it outside the house, with good sky view?

A further thought.

have you connected the GO to your PC with the USB cable? If you can do that you can check exactly what's on your card.

Have you checked the "Switch maps" or "Manage Maps" in the Preferences? Are you sure that the map you want is missing? It may just not be selected.

It can take a long time to find the satellites after the GO has been moved while switched off. Leave it in one place in the open air for up to an hour.

Also check reception.

Turn on. Touch screen bottom right. If a map appears, touch the white area with the satellite info. This will give you a screen with the searching info on it.

If its demo unit from the shop then it doesnt work as it should?? or?? When i press for satellites i can see a up to 8 "things" ....staples moving up and down...i assume that these are satelites and when im outside i can see that they are to the top....but why does it says 0 satellites...weird....is it possible to download a map and put it on my card....just to see if the thing works...from kazaa or whatever...i an gonna support tomtom by buyin more maps but if the navigator doesnt work then im just throwing more money away...

BTW in the gps status menu where the satellites are listed it says No GPS device! so i assume that this is demo verison without gps....and the bloody rhing keeps switching back to danish language all the time and reseting all my settings...maybe if i put new firmware in it the thing would work but i cant download any software...the ver. is 4.410...

wooohoo i got the blue ones...satelilltes....so the thing works...now I assume that I need appropriate maps..i ll try to order them now...tnx 4 help guys....

If you have the grey bars moving up and down you are receiving the satellite signals. After a while you should see 3 turn blue. You will then have a lock as it knows where you are. Then it will say "3 satellites", or whatever

I'm not sure whether you need to be located on the map you have - in which case you will need a map of where you are first.

The "no GPS device" message happens. But i only see it briefly at startup. Going back to Danish is not right.

Your SD card may need a reformat to sort it. Copy it to your hard disc first. Use drag and drop. GO will appear as a removable drive in "My Computer".

Or try a reset of the GO first. Small hole underneath.

i think that the problem is in the card...its a demo card and it keeps reseteting all settings after a while... and the upgrade doesnt work since the thing keeps asking me for activation code...im gonna try to download scandianvian map and see if it works...

hello again...downloaded few tomtom maps from various sites but none seems to work...what to do...i dont want to sell it to someone so its going straight to the garbage...too bad..it really looks nice in my car...if someone wants to sell me their scandinavian map you can reach me att muki111@hotmail.com

If I were you I would lodge a complaint with Ebay, you've got nothing to loose and might get some money back or force the seller to send you the maps or activation code.If the TomTom was advertised as coming with the Scandinavia maps and it did not you have grounds for complaint.

Don't Ebay offer buyer protection up to £500 these days.

tnx for the info but the site that I used is called Blocket www.blocket.se and its the biggest swedish market place on the internet. I used ebay just to make it easier for u.

I have found lots of maps on thepiratebay but none seems to be working... pls someone...heeeelp...does anybody know a good chat room where we can talk about this...
