I have Sprite Premium edition installed on my iPAQ 2210, and had a couple of backups safely on a CF card. While I was away from home I had an annoying fault where the backlight brightness can't be adjusted...when I go to settings the adjuster is greyed out and I can't move it.
I thought a hard reset followed by a system restore might fix it. I did the hard reset, but when I tried to do a restore I discovered that Sprite Premium edition was gone, all I had was the factory default backup utility which would not restore from the files on my CF card!
When I got home I reinstalled Sprite premium and got all my programs up and running again (though the backlight problem remains) but my question is how can I install Sprite premium where I won't lose it next time I have to do a hard reset? I don't recall ever being offered the option of where to install it. I guess iPAQ File Store would be safest, or perhaps I could install it on the CF card and run it from there.
Can anyone help please
Robin

iPAQ File Store is the best place.

>how can I install Sprite premium where I won't lose it<

Create self-restoring backup files (i.e. with the retore program as part of the archive).

Options->Backup Options, select 'Create self-restoring Backup Files'

I had already created self restoring backup files (thank goodness) and they were on my CF card. It was the Sprite application itself which I lost. I don't recall at any stage during the installation process being asked where I wanted to install it.

The ActiveSync popup has probably asked you if you want to install to default location. And you probably just pressed "Yes"

Use CabInstl if you want to have more control over the process.

Thanks Lutz, I'll try that. Where do I find CabInstl? When I installed it, I just got a wizard which asked if I wanted to install it in the Pocket Device

OK, I uninstalled Sprite premium and then reinstalled it and found the option to select the iPAQ File Store as the destination folder. I feel much safer now!
