Retail or online?

First of all I would like to thank everyone on this board for all the helpful posts. I have been lurking for a while now and there is a lot of good advice on this forum.

I will be buying an in car GPS unit in the near future; probably a Garmin Quest or a Navman iCN 510. I can buy these two units at local retail stores in Aberdeen, but for up to £50 less I can buy them online. Is the saving outweighed by the advantage of local service when it comes time to return a faulty unit?

You could try printing a couple of the adds (of the internet) for the units your interested in and showing your local store them to see if they are willing to give a discount of any sort, but normally if the unit works O.K. straight out of the box then it should be quite reliable so buying of the net is usually OK.

Have a look at the Retailers to buy from or avoid on this forum.

Depends on the retailer. I've bought GPS equipment from Amazon, expansys and globalpositioningsystems and all have been fine . Although admittedly I haven't had to return any items.
