I have been using Destinator since version 1 in 2002 on a compaq iPAQ H3800, upgrading software regularly as the need arises so I have had some experience with it. However I have just bought a HP hx4700 and Destinator 6. I am unable to install the software on the iPAQ (no problem with the maps since I do that directly through a card reader/writer which is much faster). The Destinator 'preloader' does load but then the installation stops and reports that it is not getting info from the iPAQ. I have tried most things like resetting the iPAQ, switching off my ZoneAlarm security, using different USB ports, using a COM port and even trying to upgrade my older iPAQ but the result is the same - it cannot get info from the iPAQ. Activesync is on and working since I can send datto my iPAQ and explore my iPAQ from the pc, and also if I watch the File Explorer on the iPAQ I can see the Destinator 'preloader' being loaded (size 20k). If I delete it and start the install again it loads it again and then stops! Can anyone help? Sad

Have you tried copying the CAB file to the PDA and running it directly from there?

I have a 4700 and installed Destinator 6 with no problems about a week ago. Could it be a memory problem. I have loaded D6 + maps to a 1Gb CF Card. It still puts a few small files in the main memory but thats all. Without D6 running my 4700 is showing 10.69MB free for storage and 24.34MB free for Programs with 8.98Mb and 18.27MB respectively in use.

There are several and I do not know which to use, but would a CAB file unload correctly when sitting on the pda which has a windows mobile operating system and not a pc o.s.?

I have slightly more memory than you available and I too have put my maps on a 1Gb CF card (via a card reader/writer). When installing the software onto the pda using "Install Software" button the preloader software gets installed on the pda (I can see it appearing via the pda file explorer) but then the system stops with the message "Cannot get data from mobile device. Please try again". Nor do I get a request to choose the language for the pda installation. It appears like a communication error yet the communication is fine in both directions when transferring data to/from pda via activesync (which is on and the pda is connected). I have even removed and reinstalled D6 on the pc, I have also reinstalled activesync.

You need main.cab, english.cab and if you use TMC tmc.cab.
Depending on your PDA system you have to choose between the PPC2003 and WM5 files.

Just copy them on your memory card and execude them in this order: main, english, tmc.

:D Many thanks to you both but I have finally done it. I just kept uninstalling Destinator Console from pc, reinstalling it and running it and after the nth time it finally ran correctly. Not very scientific I know but what a relief, thanks again. I have now backed up my pda.
