Hi,

first up, hello I'm new here.

Here's my basic question:

When driving somewere do you have to enter a destination into tom tom nav 3 (or 5) for it to tell me where i am?

I'm wondering if it is possible to just drive around and it shows me where i am and warns me of approching speed cameras.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that most of the time I know where I'm going but would still like to be warned of any speed cameras, or be able to see the name of the road i'm on.

Is that possible?

Thanks

yes, you can use the products without having a route planned (in cruising mode, so to speak).

All this POI alerting stuff works independent from the route anyhow.

Indeed. I use it in this mode once I know where I am going, I especially keep it on at night to remond me when the curves are coming up on poorly lit roads.

And Checkpoint works whether or not you are navigating or not. In fact I have programmed one of the hot buttons to toggle navigation on/off.

When you buy v3 now you will be able to upgrade to v5 for 49 EUR (that's what they told us at CeBIT). Your call...
