I have posted this on the Mapsonic forum but am reposting it here in case there are any suggestions as to the cause of the problem.
I have just completed my first significant trip since getting ViaMichelin Mapsonic and have noticed an issue which I am not sure is a failing of the software, a fault with hardware or simply something I have to live with.
On occasion the system determines that my current position is somewhat to the left of where I really am and as a result it decides to recalculate the route often assuming I am on a road running parallel to the one I am on.
I am using a Sony Clie TJ-35 and a Rikaline 6010 mouse with the latest version (2.5.2) of the Mapsoninc software
Any suggestions? |

Standard GPS has an accuracy of 15 to 50 meters. If the parallel street is in that range then it is possible that your sofware does a wrong "snap to road".
Not much you can do about this - even if a receiver supports DGPS it doesn't mean you can receive a usable DGPS signal where you are.
There is some navigation software that allows you to disable the "snap to road" feature, but I am not sure if Via Michelin has that. _________________ Lutz

Just back from the Post Office having sent the 6010 back to Rikaline for repair/replacement. The accuracy issue became more and more serious to the point where it was taking over 25 minutes to get even a 2D fix (with the LED on the receiver constant not flashing) and the position drifting. Having got a 3D fix it could lose the fix and then take a further 25 minutes or more to get a new fix.
My experience with Rikaline is not good. My first receiver was DOA, the second has now gone back for repair (which may take as long as 4 weeks) here's hoping that it will be third time lucky. In the meantime I have no GPS. |

Exactly one week after posting my 6010 back to Rikaline in the UK, and not the suggested 3 weeks, I have received a replacement unit. Fired it up and within a minute had a fix with 6 satellites. Hopefully this will now work for longer than a few weeks. Anyway Rikaline have gone some way to restoring my faith in the company and product. |
