Hi,
upgraded to newest database on a new Ipaq, but can't remember what I have to do to get the new (missing) cameras I'm adding via a hardware button to show up on the map. All advice gratefully received. What is the name of the ov2 file this action creates, and where should it be stored?

I think we need more information.
If you are using the CheckPOInt camera databases and CheckPOInt v3, then once you have added the new cameras, you need to sync to the CheckPOInt / POIPlace website and then it will download the latest cameras, including your discovered ones. The new cameras are stored in the Checkpoint.ov2 file if you want to see them on screen to confirm it's recorded (although it won't display any detail eg speed, type until you sync).
If you are using the PocketGPSWorld camera database, you really need to provide the details of the new cameras to the maintainers so that they can add them to everyone's database. However, if you store all the new cameras in a separate POI file, you simply need to make sure TomTom is displaying these POIs. |

I'm still using CheckPOInt 2, no POI sync, and the pocketgpsworld database. I'm not talking about adding to the global database yet, just getting new ones I capture to appear on my display.
Before, when I hit the hardware button to catch a new camera, a little camera Icon appeared at the spot next time Checkpoint was run. Now I get nothing, I can't remember what I have to do to get my new captured cameras to show on the map.

I guess thats what I need to do, as I asked in my original post, where are the new captures stored by default? |

Ah, sorry, I have no experience of v2, but is there a checkpoint.ov2 file? |

If there is no bitmap, it will show up on the map as a yellow star - in TomTom simply going to File/Properties, POI, and tick the POI should result in them appearing on the map. |

From what I remember that's not true with CheckPOInt.ov2. If you create a POI category in TomTom Navigator, Navigator automatically creates a corresponding .bmp file containing the 'black asterisk on orangey-yellow background' icon.
However, CheckPOInt.ov2 is not created with a .bmp file. The easiest thing to do is copy one from elsewhere and rename it as CheckPOInt.bmp. The logical one to copy is the Gatso one. If you like, use a graphics program to turn the .bmp into 8 bit paletted colour and change it to a different colour than black on white.

no problem, I just copied & renamed the gatso icon.
I think I recall a soft reset also helps coax the pda into revealing the changes in any poi file content. |

You don't need to go quite as far as a soft reset, though you usually need to exit Navigator and restart it for POIs added by third party software (such as CheckPOInt) to show in Navigator.
