External Antennas

In ST mode on my Fortuna Clip on, I get a lovely signal outside in the open within 30 seconds on a cold start, but indoors or near a window in ST or XT, absolutely nothing, I've tried everything. I've read that I'm not the only person having this problem. I would like it working so I can setup routes at home ready for connection in the car (saves time). I thought I might buy an additional antenna to connect up to my Clip on in the house and shove the Antenna end out of the office window to get a signal indoors. (1) Does this sound cool 8) or what else can I do (2) Do these antennas have a long enough lead i.e. something like 30 feet. :D
