|
|
I am looking for a GPS that I can use to guide me along a pre-defined route; for touring purposes. I see that SmartST can set waypoints to guide its navigation - my question is: how easy is this to do?
How does one define the waypoints on the PDA? is it tap the map? can one drag the line of a route to the roads you want to use?
Is it possible to define routes on a PC and upload (download?) them to the PDA? Is this easier than using the PDA application?
Can such defined routes be saved? Shared with others?
How many waypoints can be set? How many routes can be defined?
Is it possible to set a route with the same place as start and finish ?
If you stray off route does SmartST recalculate to the next waypoint or to the final destination ?
Sorry for so many questions, please answer as few or as many as you are able
Many thanks,
Ian |

Q How does one define the waypoints on the PDA? is it tap the map? can one drag the line of a route to the roads you want to use?
A- You can define the waypoints either by address, favourite, POI, recent destination or PPC Contacts just like you would for any destination.
Q Is it possible to define routes on a PC and upload (download?) them to the PDA? Is this easier than using the PDA application?
A- No, SmartST does not have this feature. CoPilot does but i don't know if CoPilot allows multiple waypoints.
Q Can such defined routes be saved? Shared with others?
A- Your 'Trips' can be savedand you can choose the location, main memory, memory card etc... They could be copied from there and shared but I have never tried this.
Q How many waypoints can be set? How many routes can be defined?
A- You can set up to 14 waypoints. As far as i'm aware there is no limit on saved 'trips'
Q Is it possible to set a route with the same place as start and finish ?
A- I have never tried that but I see no reason why not.
Q If you stray off route does SmartST recalculate to the next waypoint or to the final destination ?
A- SmartSt will recalculate to the next waypoint. _________________ Ian.

Thanks for this, a very comprehensive answer . From your answer, I take it that it is not possible to tap a location on the screen to define a waypoint? |

Yes, you can do that, too. Tap and hold your chosen point and select "Add To Trip" from the pop-up menu. You may need to optimise the route though, as it is generated in the order in which the waypoints were entered. However, it is a simple matter to move the waypoints around. _________________ Tim |
