I have been able to sync for a while with no problems. Suddenly it wont connect. When i plug in the USB lead the pocket pc starts charging and active sync starts trying to connect so my PC is seeing the pocket PC.

But no way will it connect. When openning active sync on the pocket pc it says 'not connected' and errors. Clicking on that the message 'unable to connect-verify your dialup or proxy settings are correct then try again' is seen. Whats suddenly gone wrong?

I downloaded the latest version of activesync to ensure thats ok but no change.

Thanks

Start with simple things first - have you soft reset the Pocket PC and rebooted the PC? If not, try both these. If ActiveSync still doesn't work, if possible, move the cradle or cable to a different USB socket.

You may have installed re-installed or otherwise updated a firewall on the host PC

If so you have to allow various programs to go through the wire

OTOH your PPC might just be in need of a good prod up the jacksie (soft reset)

The wierdest combination I have ever experienced is when activesync completes the sync and Windows Explorer shows zero there?

This shows that there are some really crappy coders at work probably supported by sales personal that call malicious code "security sensitive"

The really sad thing is ... I'll rant about this later Twisted Evil

The point about firewalls is a good one - as ActiveSync does use TCP/IP.

I've given up on software firewalls for my PCs - I have a good hardware firewall in my perimeter router, and the Windows XP SP2 boxes do make use of the (not brilliant, but it does work) Windows Firewall when appropriate.

Many thanks all, seems it was a firewall issue. All sorted now, thanks for your help.
