Hi - I have GPS devices and a combination of topo and street wise maps.
(Anquet, SmartST, BT GPS, topo GPS, 2210)

What I'd like to do is put an antenna on a bit of a flat roof.

It will be fixed there in position and the feed line will go indoors to help me get used to the various bits n bobs of GPS'ing hardware and software and to do so using live feed GPS data.

My present solution of standing in the garden lit by the pale glow of PPC holding another unit that twinkles an assortment of lites is wonderful. But I fear it may be frightening the neighbours a little bit :D

Anyway - I hope to fix a GPS antenna, output wire to my study - I am sure you will see the immediate advantages straight away.

My questions are:
- are antenna cables up to weather and weathering

- how long can an antenna lead go (maybe 5 yards or even 8?)

- antenna or re-radiating antenna

I'd like to become a bit more proficient with GPS software/hardware and this seems one way to do that

Any and all responses, suggestions and advice gratefully received

Kind regards to all

What GPS (model) do you have?
Does it have external antenna connection?
A BT GPS usually has MCX or MMCX connection, if any. A few may have uncommon ones.

External antenna and the running cable is usually waterproof. A length of 5 metres is OK, but 10 metres can be acceptable, depending on the antenna performance.

If your GPS does not have external antenna connection, you use re-radiating antenna which works just as well.
