A) the UK map set shold include the channel islands
b) the UK map set should be accurate, wherever Teleatlas got their map set its rubbish (Yeah ok I work in the Land and property Gazatteer area, and expect accuracy). examples no through road in selby not marked (been like that for 5.5 years), Selby bypass, been under construction for 3 years and completed for a twelve month, completely missing, thats just 2 examples, could list about 35 first hand.
c) optional MAPset availability, eg UK canals, including locks, tunnels, sluices, bridges and air clearance info.
d) a toolkit that can enable you to create your own maps.

(a) might happen in a future release but it isn't a part of the UK. If they marketed the mapset as the British Isles, I'd agree with you. No excuse for not including the Scillies, though.
(b) no arguments. IMO TeleAtlas falls well behind Navteq in this area, and I don't think I'm alone in this.
(c) nice idea, but a niche market, I'd have thought.
(d) unlikely. If they give you the wherewithall to make your own maps, you won't need to buy their updates. _________________ Tim

Tim,
within local government I use a number of mapping tools which convert mapping data from one format to another, and allow all sorts of weird overlays, (EG internal layouts of banks including location of safes etc...Not in public domain), conversion from OS to Autocad mapping and back.
I have most of the Northern UK canals with locks etc mapped (required for various planning permissions etc). This info is in the form of OS overlays, and Caps/Esra geo-spatial mapping formats.
Is there anywhere I can get th technical info on the Mapping formats used by Navman or others?, I'm prepared to see if I could provide to you and a few others the mapping data in the right format?.
I would also make the data available to couple of liveaboard Narrowboaters for accuracy checking and wish lists (They usually want info on boatyard facilities, fuel, pump-out, laundry facilities et all), plus waterside location of supermarkets.

Unfortunately I have no idea where you can get such information. I'd love to see what you can do, though, if you manage to get hold of it (legally). _________________ Tim
