Hi

I want to buy a PDA (to use as a portable pc) & buy a GPS system/software to go with it. I am torn between Tom Tom 3 Bluetooth & CoPilot 5 Bluetooth. Here are my questions:

1) Which of these has the edge? Higher spec & portability
2) What's the difference between ALK CoPilot & Spotlight CoPilot?
3) Can anyone suggest a well-priced bundle? I've heard HP are good for PDAs but, again, several models of iPAQs are bundled together!

Your help would stop me from tearing my hair out!!

Thanks
JackieD

Are you a leisure driver or a avid route planner/optimiser? Tell us more how you want to use the product.

I opted for CoPilot because I like the ability to have all the maps loaded on the PC desktop IN ADDITION to having them on the PPC. If you buy the UK version, you will have both UK and Europe maps on the desktop PC, but will have to pay another £99 if you want to transfer Europe to PPC.

This means you can perform more sophisticated route planning as the desktop version enables you to add "weightings" to the type of road you wish to use. It is also easier to see on a 17" screen, and in effect gives you an equivalent of MS Autoroute.

Once youv'e saved your route, it can simply be downloaded to the PPC.

I'd be using it for work and leisure. Heres what I need:

* I need to get around cities, esp. London.
* Turn by turn instructions are important.
* Using the device on foot or cylcing is also needed
* I also visit the Irish Republic frequently and would like good map coverage there. (I believe Navman 630 onlh covers the main cities).
* A good quality PDA is a definite requirement (do you know what the Mitac Mio is like?)

Lastly, are ALK and Spotlight different brands? If so, which is better?

Gripp

I assume you can't load maps onto your pc using Tom Tom 3?

Another question I've thought of, is bluetooth reliable?

Thanks

Sorry, I don't have TomTom so I can't answer that question.

What I can say is that my Mitac Mio168 runs both CoPilot and Memory Map. I have just bought a 1Gb SD card which enables me to have both the CoPilot maps - plus London A-Z and Ordnance Survery maps for use in Memory Map.

So, CoPilot is great for navigating in the car, and the OS maps are great when I'm out walking (or cycling if I had a bicycle). I was out walking for several hours over fields in Dorset on Boxing Day and the Mitac battery still had plenty of life at the end of it. I was able to follow our route very accurately along every footpath using the OS map.

Well that's sounds like a great recommendation for Mitac.

Thanks!

You sure can load maps onto your PC, but that's about all you can do with them. TomTom doesn't run on PCs (CoPilot has a PC version, too)
