TT Estimated Time of Arrival

I've noticed that TomTom (3.07) tends to be a little bit optimistic about estimated time or arrival; perhaps I'm a slow driver or TT doesn't take into account traffic congestion, but often it predicts a time well ahead of when I do arrive. Is there any way of changing this ie. making TT a little more realistic in it's estimates?

Could it be that TT uses the road speeds you can conifgure to arrive at it's estimates? In that case, would lowering all the speeds make it estimate longer times? Anyone?

You are on the right track. When you adjust the road class speeds to your average it should also calculate a more realistic ETA

Just a word of warning - be careful playing around with these speeds as it can dramatically effect the way TomTom routes you!

Thanks for the advice, I've not changed mine as unsure what the best speed setting would be.

Motor way I have 70 mph
International Road unsure what to set that at if anyone can define what Internation Roads are.

Again the same for major road/secondary road.

Important local road I have 30 mph and Local road 30 mph.

Yeah, I'm afraid it's not at all clear and I have a no idea how TT defines most road types. I think the question has been asked before and no one really seems to know (though I'm hoping to be proved wrong on this!)

From experimentation I did find that altering the speeds does effect routing (sometimes drastically if the ratios change a lot). For instance, if you make Motorway speeds higher and leave other roads the same then TomTom will route you onto motorways more often. It determines a route by calculating what will be the fastest way from A to B using the road speeds you tell it. Be careful, though, as making (say) motorways much faster than the next type of roads can mean TT always making a B-line for the nearest motorway junction wherever you are... Luckily there is a Reset to Defaults button if you can't remember what the orginal speeds were Smile

Thanks, Barry, that certainly makes things a little more clear. I take it you can only replace TT colour schemes and not add new ones?

As far as I know the drop-down lists for colour schemes are fixed, so yes, you can only replace the existing ones. You could of course rename my file after downloading it and before copying it to the Pocket PC, if you wanted to replace a different one instead.
