I hope that you can understand all this !!!! Embarassed

I have my GB maps on a dedicated GB chip but recently tried to install the GB maps ( from the CD) to a new 512 chip.

I found that the maps from the CD ware a different version from that on the Dedicated chip -- many by-passes missed off etc..

So I copied the files from my GB chip to my PC then over to my new 512 -- this transfered the latest GB map fine -- however - all of my Favourits seem to have been lost on the way?? Evil or Very Mad

(they are still on the dedicated GB chip - and work - so I havent wiped them)

How do I transfer my favorits over?
Are they in a specific file...
It will be a pain to do them over as most of them were GPS locations !!

Any help would be appreciated... :P

It all depends how you copied them over. On your PC, make sure you set your file explorer to not hide any files (system files etc) AND to display all file extensions.

TTGO uses some exotic extensions for files, and those files may have been missed from your copying process. You can verify this by running a folder size count of both your "chip" ( we call it a SD card) and the folder on the PC where you copied it to.

Yes, Favourites are stored in the file called <mapfoldername>.cfg inside the GB map folder.

What's happened is that the folder name for the map installed from the CD is sometimes different to the folder name of the maps pre-installed on the SD card ("chip"), so you get both on the card after the CD installation.

Your favourites are still in the old folder, and they need to be transferred into the new one. However this requires that you delete the new folder's <newfoldername>.cfg file first.

Then copy-and-paste the <oldfoldername>.cfg file into the <newfoldername> folder, and rename it <newfoldername>.cfg

Voila!

thanks for the help!! :D
Sorry for calling the SD a chip !! Embarassed

Sorted the moving of the faves over to the SD512 - thingy Laughing

What I had to do was deleat the whole GB folder from the SD512 and then copy to my desktop the GB folder from the SD128 then paste to the SD512...

Slight hicoughs in that:-

a. The system completley locked up and had to use the paperclip to re set.
b. Reinstalled the system from the CD but this was version 4.2.
c. Downladed v4.4 and installed
d. Only finished up with "Jane" and had to reinstall voices.

Apart from that I now have my GB3.90 on my SD512 together with my France map which is v3.14 (I hope that this is the latest. It is for me any way !!)

Also all my Faves are working !!!! Laughing

BTW I had map version GB3.90 on the SD and 3.14 on the CD
Purchaced in November... :P

Just one other thing....

Having "looked at" the SD512 with explorer I see that there are several (10) recovered file fragments with *.chk what are these???

these are in the Boot? area - first section - of the SD along-side the ttsystem files etc..

dont want to take them of "just in case" Embarassed

Eeek! Don't remove the .chk files! Windows thinks they are recovered fragments, but the TTG needs them (different operating system, different file extension meanings!)
