There's lots of talk/utilities for POIs, but what about favourites. These seem the way to record frequent places I travel to. I have a load I want to import to TT3.

- How many will TT3 support?

- Is it possible to batch import them?

... found the (low) limit of 20 in the manual. So I need a different way to do this.

Saving them as addresses in my contacts?? But I have co-ordinates for them...

Hi,

The popular method and one which I use is to create a POI file i.e. 'Friends & Family' and put them all in there.

Having created the POI file, locate all the addresses and add them to the file. A nice simple way is to find them on the map, hold the stylus down on the exact location and select 'Add as Point of Interest' on the resulting menu.

You can then save a copy of the POI file as a backup in another location if you choose.

Most people set only the Home favourite (so that you can navigate Home), and otherwise use a personal POI category.

There's many problems with the use of favourites. You're limited to 19 plus the Home favourite, and they only show on the map for which they're configured, which causes problems if you regularly use a small sectional map in main memory and a larger map on a storage card (though I'm the first to admit that TomTom Navigator handles that badly - a facility for a 'global' POI folder additional to map specific POI files in the map folder would be nice).

The biggest problem is that favourites are embedded in the proprietary settings file for the map. If this file gets corrupted, or you decide to stop using TomTom Traffic, your favourites are lost. As you say, favourites can't be manipulated with POI utilities.

If you create yourself a personal POI category and set it as one of the four POI categories to display in the menu (Advanced tab of the Properties dialog), I find a personal POI category just as functional as favourites.
