Hi,

Firstly what a great site! I am good with techonology but I have to admit GPS is really blowing my mind! SO I have a question which I hope can be answered...

I have a Toshiba E310 Pocket PC, and I want to have GPS route mapping capability.

It seems this may be slightly complicated with this model, but I am hoping possible. The best way I have come up with so far is by using bluetooth....

As there is no built in bluetooth I thought maybe I should do the following:

Buy a bluetooth sd card. Buy a Bluetooth GPS receiver. Would this then make the Unit GPS Capable? i.e. do I understand the concept correctly in that a bluetooth GPS receiver will receive the signal and then communicate this info to the bluetooth card in my Pocket PC?

Next: In order to have route mapping I think I would need to buy a mapping program, is this correct? If so, which would be best for the unit and the way iin which I am making it bluetooth compatible?

Problems:

I will need an SD bluetooth card, I assume maps are stored on cards and not the internal memoery. There will be no room for a storage card, therefore will I be able to load any maps at all for use? I will only need a map of England for my travels. Will I be able to store maps on the unit? I do not have many progs on the unit and so I am hoping I would have this room. Are there any mapping progs which have particularly compact maps? If so would these serve the purpose of mapping anyway?

Has anyone here already made this work with an E310 or does anyone know a better way in which I can do it!?

Phew.... Any replies are very much appreciated! Like I say I am very new to this. but no doubt over the coming months will learn lots from everyone else on these boards!

Thanks a lot,

You got it right - the 310 is not the ideal devie for navigation. You may however be lucky to find a USB>Serial converter cable and then you can connect a serial GPS receiver and save the SD slot for the memory card
with the maps .

Alternatively you coud wait until the first combined SD GPS and memory card comes out... Should not be long...

If you have not bought a GPS already, you could go for the Kirrio IR mount solution which was reviewed somewhere on this site. It is sold as a package including a wired GPS and a mount using IR as interface. I am sure there is a e310 version.

Still I would not recommend it as you are bound to upgrade your PPC in the near future and the GPS cannot be used with your new PPC.
