Hi,
Having bought the tomtom Navigator 3 and the Car kit for my Ipaq 2210 i would like to be able to hard wire the car kit direct to the fuse box or wiring system of my car rather than use the Cigarette lighter socket as its not availble in my car.

Is there any way to go about hard wiring the device. Can i chop the cigarette plug off and simply splice the wires into a corresponding 12v switched supply behind the dashboard?? Or would you be able to source a special cable that i may need to use.

If i joined the cables to the cars Radio cassette player power, could this put too much strain on the wires and cause them to heat up, or drain too much power away from the radio cassette unit?

Any advice would be very much appreciated because at the moment i cannot use my GPS system at all!

Thanks

Neil

No need to chop off anything. Gently dismantle the cigarette plug adapter that came with the TomTom receiver. Please keep in mind that you MUST keep the 12V>5V converter, even when you hard wire this.

Connecting it to the radio power supply should not be a big problem if the fuse for the radio can handle an additional 2 Ampere
