I want to hardwire my tomtom bluetooth reciever and i'm stuck.

1 Can i use the telephone type socket, cut the end of and use the +ive amd -ive wires to connect

2 should i use one of the power cables instead and cut the end offf that

3 If i use either of these two options do I need to put in an inline fuse, and if so what rating ?

I have an external aerial so placement is not an issue.

Any help Much appreciated.

P.S will this tom tom cradle ever become available ? Question

Be careful with this - the tomtom BT unit requires a 5v power supply so cutting off the rj11 and hardwiring to the vehicle wiring loom will fry it ( the BT unit not the car).

I've got a tomtom car kit for my Dell Axim X30 and that has the step down built in so you can plug the supplied cable into the car kit and then plug into the BT unit. As the car kit has the step down built in you can power it directly from the loom.

Alternatively you can buy a seperate charger for to plug into the cigar lighter with the step down built in - you can then hardwire an auxilary cigar lighter into the loom and plug the charger into it and hide it all away in a foot well or behind the dash.

Would recomend the tomtom car kit solution - works really well in my car - I too have an external antenna so the receiver is permanantly live and hidden away. Permanat live state means tht there is never a delay to get a fix :D .

Hope this helps.
