|

Hi Everyone,
Another noob to GPS...I have a GPS pocket pc (ACER N35) I bought at the Duty Free in Taiwan. I had to buy the Kingmap V2 software (also known as PaPaGo) - with the US Midwestern maps (I live in Indiana...)
The problem I run into is: When I plot a course from my home to work (for example) the software uses the nearest major street at that lattitude instead of my exact residential location - it also uses the nearest major street as my end spot instead of the work place which I have designated on the map 8O . Is there a way to fix this? The demo map that comes with the program itself of NY lets me choose all sorts of places...but then, all those streets are yellow (not gray as the residential streets...)
I like the program and the voice assist etc...if there is nothing else I can do...are there other street navigation programs that people can recommend?
I would prefer not to spend $200 on the maps! So is there a more cost effective alternative? Or am I stuck on that?
Thanks in advanced,
Ray |

PaPaGo 5 (that's basically what you've got) has very limited street data. No house numbers, no intersections. As you noticed the program is pretty neat but they are currently unable to provide us with better map data. Other parts of the world are luckier - South Africa for example got the next version (v7) - called HandyMap 2005.
Either wait for newer maps (no ETA) or look at other programs ( see the comparison database)[/list] _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the reply.
Actually the map itself is pretty detailed...my residential street is actually listed. I can make my location a POI or part of 'My Place', and it shows up on the map where it is supposed to be, BUT when I select it as a start or end point it ends up going to the nearest Lat. MAJOR street (in the color yellow - residential streets are a thin grey line...)
Is this a problem due to the map or the software?
Thanks!

This is an application issue, and there's not much you can do about it. _________________ Lutz

Well...that's dissappointing, but I appreciate the quick responses! Is there an index where all the software packages are scored or ranked against each other?
What do you think is the best bang for my buck?
Thanks,
