|
|
I was just reading a review on the TOM TOM BT receiver and am wondering if it will power itself off if it doesn't have a active bluetooth connection after a few minutes. The navman 4410 says it will do this but I can live with the 5-6 hours of battery on the TT BT if it powers off like the navman.
I also like the mount that the TOMTOM receiver has and the fact that the mount can be hardwired in so the battery disadvantage may not matter.
Thanks Lutz |

I don't have a TomTom receiver at hand but I believe it does not power off unless you press the button or it runs out of energy.
Regarding the cradle - what you say is true but in their infinite wisdom TomTom have decided that "nobody wants the cradle" and have discontinued bundling it with the receiver a while ago. All you can do is find someone with a broken receiver who is willing to part with the cradle... _________________ Lutz

Oh, well the review made it sound like it came with one. Well I am in a tough spot then.
The tom tom doesn't allow you to swap batteries out , right. So I cannot just carry a extra set of Ni-Mh's around and swap them out if the battery dies.
I want the tomotom software based on what everyone says and I want the navman 4410 receiver.
What is weird is navman wants almost $450 for their product w/software. TomTom wants only $350 w/software and everyone says that navman software is horrible.
The real question is can the tomtom bluetooth module "actually" pull 6 hours and can it do it again and again and again.
Is there any other BT receiver you think I should look at that I can buy individually. I want one with long battery life or swappable Ni-Mh's and of course good tiff's.
Thanks Lutz |

Ok, Here is game plan 2. I just spoke with Navman on the phone and confirmed that the unit is not for sale individually.
I may just go ahead and buy the navman package on ebay for $250 w/ manufacturers warranty. If I can handle the st software then I will keep it if not I will just spend the $150 for the tomtom software package. That will pit it at $400 which is just $50 over the tomtom kit ($350). And I will have both softwares then.
Then I need the sd/cf card which adds another $50. Next I will buy the brodit mount for $160. Hopefully everything will work
I gotta have that power capability of the 4410, up to 30 hours plus it shuts off when the pocket pc is off!! Sweet! It could last a few days at this rate. |

I just finished a review of the DeLorme Earthmate Blue Logger. Very nice piece of hardware, with replaceable battery that pulls 9 hours of use, and much cheaper... _________________ Lutz

And the Delorme is a Leadtek manufactured device as is the TomTom BT receiver. _________________ Darren Griffin |

no, this feature is not implemented currently. Remember, it's a logging device, so switching it off may not be what you want to do _________________ Lutz

So none of the BT devices besides the 4410 switch off when no BT connection is present, correct??
Well I hope that will be a standard in the newer devices we see or at least a optional switch on the side or sumtin. |

Why not use a universal 12v car adaptor, if you have a 12v socket in your boot, put the tomtom bluetooth reciver on the parcel shelf.
It's only £9.99 and £2.00 P&P.
Contact these people.

The whole point of Bluetooth is no wires.
I don't want any extra wires tangling stuff up and getting in the way. |
