New speed cameras are in operation on the M4 near Swindon.
The average speed cameras are a temporary measure to manage a stretch of roadworks on the motorway - they will monitor traffic for the next two months.
A Swindon Borough Council spokesman commented: "When in operation, the M4 will be reduced to a 50mph limit affecting a short distance of road to protect workers and drivers. The Southern Access, will create an additional route into Wichelstowe under the M4 will help to support 4,500 new homes, the new district centre and will also unlock 12.5 hectares of employment land."
He added: "Work to build the embankment south of the M4 is progressing well. The embankment will play a major part in how we will create a tunnel under the M4 without closing the road."

Those cameras were still carrying signs on Friday (7th Feb ) Camera not in use.

I wonder what the legal position is if there are 50 signs and 'camera not in use' signs ?

| Why do you see a problem K. Surely it's just the same as a 50MPH limit with no cameras. Or am I missing your point? |

He may be referring to 201178 which is still Camera not in use on 7th February. Roadworks advance signs (digging man triangle) precede it, but the speed limit sign is positioned about halfway between 201178 and 201787. I slow down anyway 'coz I'm an elderly.

Ignore my ramblings re junction 6 westbound.
Drove from Heathrow to Reading this morning, in the dark, and there was no NSL in sight so my submissions yesterday, westbound are already out of date, the whole stretch is now 50 both ways.
I'm going to resubmit soon ......
