I'm here because I'm in the market for a BT GPS receiver, and my head is swimming from all the reviews, specs, etc.
When I first set out, I was dead set on the TomTom receiver / software combo. I quickly became discouraged because I had a very hard time getting in touch with a person at TomTom, and also because I was informed there is not a 'glove fit' holder for my H5550.
I like the look of the TomTom software. The receiver would need to function with my WiFi scanning software (WiFiFoFum and Ministumbler), and I would want it to work with Pocket Streets, etc. From what I gather, that's a fairly standard / simple request.
From what I've read, Holux is a very fine choice, as is Emtac, however, I'm not sure of the technical differences and I can't seem to find current (within the last six months) reviews. I'd rather not buy a solution that was top-of-the-line a year ago and miss out on the new stuff.
I don't mind piecing a solution together. The Arkon powered holder seems to be a favorite, and Mapopolis has gotten strong recommendations - I guess that leaves me with just the receiver I'm looking for.
Comments / suggestions would be much appreciated! THANK YOU!!

most of the differences are in battery life of the BT receiver. set yourself a budget limit and then get the receiver with the biggest battery.
Just to make it clear - when you are war driving you cannot use the GPS receiver for navigation (because the stumbler is already occupying the COM port). Unless.... Have a look at the Emtac Trine ;-) _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the reply.
After finding the battery on the Trine was replaceable along with the exceptional ratings / reviews on the original Emtac, I bought the Trine last night. This morning I found the ALK solution (with what appears to be an Emtac receiver, although I've read it's not) - receiver and software combo - was given the blue ribbon on this site. I have mixed feelings about that since I like buying the best I can...
Regarding wardriving: Excellent thought. Guess I didn't consider that I could have multiple connections between the same devices. Guess that gives the Emtac a leg up.
About $270US including shipping for the Trine, external antenna, and dual car power adapter for Trine and iPAQ.
