|

With our exit from the EU and the loss of access to the more accurate and encrypted military grade signal features of Galileo calls have verb made for the UK to develop our own satellite network. But with costs estimated at more than £9bn it's unlikely to ever be feasible.
Now engineers have proposed a cheaper alternative that would cost a fraction of that at around £300m whilst still meeting our requirements for defence and emergency services.
The proposal involves launching three satellites which would be deployed to augment the basic Galileo signal which we will still have access to. This Satellite-based Augmentation System (SBAS) would provide 5cm positional accuracy with global coverage except for the polar regions.

*WISHES* Please be a burrito-powered dog in a chair with Sky dish and a ceiling fan, PLEASE!
On a serious note - seems like a sensible workaround at least. #YayBrexit |

"... Galileo calls have verb made for the UK to develop... "
Eh?
Bearing in mind how expensive every government technological contract becomes, it will never happen. They'll eventually launch something that locates our troops and missiles to the nearest continent, not the necessary few metres. And it won't work on Friday afternoon because it will have gone to the pub. But we will have a comprehensive review afterwards that explains exactly how it went over budget and how that could not have been avoided. _________________ Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Nexus 5, Galaxy tab S3.
