hi
i have this device but i'm having trouble with creating routes and getting turn by turn navigation
i used Garmin Connect , went to training and then courses and created a course. i was able to send this to the device but it appears under Tracks in the menus, rather than Routes.
i still thought it would give you turn by turn navigation or does it need to be a route, or have i not turned something on?
It's so much easier to create the routes in Connect rather than Basecamp |

Well first you won't get turn by turn directions with a track, it needs to be a route. Second you won't even get turn by turn directions with a route unless you have a routeable map installed on your Etrex. After that it's down to settings on your Etrex. Personally I use BaseCamp and not Connect so can't help with any further issues created by Connect, if indeed it does create any specific 'Connect' issues. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

yes i couldn't see how to make a route in Connect, does anyone know?
i assume the map it came with is routable , it's the Topo Active Europe map.
i have created a test route just now and it looks like it will navigate me |

Sorry as I said I don't use connect. You could always import a track into BaseCamp, convert it to a route then send it to your Etrex? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

think i got it to work
created the route in Garmin Connect, sent to device
then in BaseCamp i went to Transfer (top left)
selected tracks , and it imported
then right click on the track and 'create route from track'
jobs a good un'
do you create cycle routes at all? i can't understand the logic of where it tries to take you sometimes. you click from a to b on a main road and it will take 3miles of back roads to get to a point a few meters up the road... |

No, just use it for hiking ... but routing is dependant mainly on whatever map you're using, there are plenty free ones out there so if one doesn't work for you try some others. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
