|
|
This is driving me potty.
I have a TT 1005 which has been working fine for years, I updated through tom tom connect a couple of months ago, which I have done countless times before and ever since I have been having an issue with the spoken warnings for camera's.
I get warnings for some camera's but not for others and it appears to be totally random i.e. not by camera type. It also appears to be specific camera's so I will not get a warning for one 30mph camera regardless which direction I am travelling in but I will always get a warning for a different 30mph camera further down the road.
I have factory reset the device and deleted/overwritten all the database files several times, played about with the warning distance etc you name it I have tried it. I initially thought it was a corrupt database release but I get the same problem over several releases of the database.
I have a holiday coming up and will be driving on lots of roads I am not familiar with so I am desperate to get this resolved. |

It may need some detective work.
If you can, look up missing cameras on the submission page. What are their numbers. Are they high (190,xxx) and therefore fairly new.
Might be that you are still running an old database without realising. _________________ DashCam:

Thank you for the reply.
They are appearing on the screen so I know they are aren't missing from the database but its just not giving me the verbal warning.
Do you think it has anything to do with my sat nav model as its quite a few years old now? I bought it because I think it was one of the last TT models where I could put pocketgps cameras on. |

I don't know how TT's work but I do know Garmin deliberately don't announce cameras if it deems you are driving too slow to need a warning to slow down. _________________ DashCam:

Hi jaxx9876,
Have you added any new POIs (categories) recently?
I suggest that you take a backup of your entire TomTom and then another backup of your POIs.
If your TomTom uses TomTom Home, then you just connect the TomTom to your computer and it becomes an external device and just copy to either your computer or an external hard drive. Later TomTom units don't use TomTom Home (possibly MyDrive?) so I don't know if that works the same way.
Try temporarily removing all none speed camera POI files (.ov2, .bmp, and possibly .ogg for sound). Go for a test drive.
If that doesn't work, next, remove all speed camera POI files (.ov2, .bmp, and possibly .ogg for sound) and then copy back the .bmp and .ogg files from the backup that you took and then download a new set of .ov2 files from this website. You should then have the current database. Go for a test drive.
If that doesn't work, then has somebody been playing with your SatNav? You will need to go through every speed camera POI and reset the warning sound and distance.
Just a few thoughts.
I haven't used a TomTom PND for years so caveat emptor!
If you do get things to work again then add a few none speed camera POIs back at a time to ensure that your device is able to work OK.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
I have previously deleted all the camera's direct on the device as well as through TT my drive (takes ages), I've also tried installing the different databases the, by type and complete ones, factory reset the device, pocketgps is the only poi I have installed besides the ones that were preinstalled which I can't delete.
Im now thinking as I initially noticed this issue after the last TT update that its a problem that has been caused by the TT software update so maybe they done something with the maximum number of alerts. Don't know but just throwing out an idea.
Ive got a feeling it may be time to upgrade to Garmin. |

As a last resort, if you have a smart phone (Android or iPhone) you can use the free CamerAlert app with your PGPSW subscription for the audio alerts whilst having the icons on your TomTom. I did this for years when I had a TomTom PND as it gives you easier options to change range etc and also SPECS warnings are handled better with CamerAlert.

That didn't even occur to me as I forgot I have the app installed on my phone as I don't use it anymore, thanks for the advice I think thats the best fix until I get around to getting a new sat nav. |
