Smart seems to be all the rage at the moment: smart homes, smart speakers and now smart cars. Ford, Toyota, Lexus, BMW and Kia have all announced they they are bringing Amazon's Alexa, or Google's Assistant, voice control to their cars, and their homes, in the very near future.
Ford
Alexa integration will allow you to check the status of your electric car from inside your home and, later in the year, all Ford Sync3-equipped cars will have full voice control while driving. Such as listening to audio books, getting navigation directions, adding items to shopping lists etc.
Toyota
Toyota have stated that vehicles with the Entune 3.0 infotainment system will start to get Alexa capabilities this year. More cars will get Alexa throughout 2019.
Kia
Kia have announced that they will bring Google Assistant to a handful of it's 2018 models via the UVO infotainment systems on the new Niro PHEV, Soul EV, Optima PHEV and K900.
BMW
Announced last year, BMW have said that Amazon Alexa will be available in all 2018 model year BMW and MINI vehicles from mid-2018 in the US, UK, and Germany.
Everyone Else
For everyone else, there is Anker's $50 solution, the Roav VIVA - a Bluetooth charger with Alexa built in. Simply ask Alexa to open your navigation app on your phone, to play you some music, to read you an audio book or just make a handsfree phone call.
