Following a crackdown on speeding and other traffic offences, it appears that France will collect over a billion euro in fines next year.
Although projected fines are only €928 million, which is a 10% increase on this year, extra fines for late payments are expected to bring the figure to a billion euro.
Road deaths in France have risen for the last three years in a row (3,477 people last year), with 32% of fatal accidents blamed on speeding.
Last month, France's President announced measures which included banning hands-free phone kits in cars, lowering the alcohol limit for young drivers and introducing saliva tests to detect drug use.
France also intends to increase use of private companies to run its speed cameras following a trial in Normandy.

Interesting about hands free phone kits. Not sure how that could possibly work? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

More specifically, the ban is for hands free-kits and earphones. _________________ Robert Brady |

About time.
It has been known for as long as the 'phone ban has been in place that it is holding the conversation that is the danger; not holding the 'phone. |

Indeed. It's the different level of concentration whilst talking on the phone in comparison to conversing with a passenger. _________________ Robert Brady |

It's already in force. Any form of earpiece is a no-no including for bicycle riders. |

The number of deaths n France on the roads goes up or down based on a couple of months of bad weather or perhaps a bus accident where there are a lot of fatalities at one time.
They then use these figures to twist the truth. The general trend is down but they think they can get the figures to zero - a world without accidents.. yeh right.
They still fail to crackdown on dangerous moped and motorbike accidents - big killer.
They have many roads that have dangerous crossings or bad junctions. Changing these of course takes money so it's just cheaper to say it is because of bad drivers and add more cameras.
