nuvi 2699 LMT-D car charging via USB

I've done a search here but can't find a thread in the recent few years, but will my unit function and/or charge using a USB cable in my car? I would like to find a cigarette socket adapter which has either two usb outputs - one for my iPhone and the other for my Garmin or a gadget with a permanent dedicated iPhone cable and a socket for the Garmin?

You can, but it has to be a special USB cable or it thinks it's connected to a PC.

I tried it once, ages ago, and the Garmin kept flicking between PC and Navigation because I used a standard cable.

Also, you'll need to use Smartlink Traffic because the aerial lead isn't there.

I wired in a female power socket behind the dash, works perfectly.

I bought a 'TA20 traffic compatible' one from eBay. Damn fine copy, but traffic didn't work. The refund was duly made.
Bought one from Garmin at a silly price that just worked. Hence my previous post to get the car charger from Garmin and don't believe the claims of the much cheaper ones from eBay. But since I bought another 6" Garmin, I now have two spare cables. Rolling Eyes

I've never seen a USB traffic receiver cable.

USB cable to the unit can be neater but you need to use Smartlink for the traffic.

Having re-read topref's first post, he is looking to use a USB lead for his 2699LMT-D.
As far as I know, the traffic won't work unless he uses the Garmin car adaptor. What he needs is like what Kremmen and I have done, a two way Cigar socket adaptor and use the Garmin power lead and whatever is needed for his other device. Something like THIS would do the trick, but a bit of an overkill unless you have a whole bunch of stuff to plug in.

Do you want Digital Traffic to work? If not then yes it will do.
I have just tried several USB chargers combined with several USB leads. None of them switch the Garmin to PC mode, but none of the combinations are compatible with D Traffic.
So take your choices. Tidy? charging with no traffic. Or do what I said and use a multi ciggy adaptor and the Garmin charger.
I have hard wired my multi ciggy thingy as has Kremmen. (And both of ours work as designed with traffic.)[/s]

I have personal experience of both Smartlink and cable traffic and cable traffic (Inrix) is better. At least in my area it is.

Smartlink, when I used it, was viaMichelin and they are very lax at removing obsolete roadworks. That seems to fill the buffer so latest traffic reports don't get through.

I counted 200 local rosdworks last time I looked and most of them obsolete.

They may have improved though as that was a year ago at least.

The device that you linked to should work OK for your requirements with Traffic PROVIDING you use the Garmin car changer in it, NOT a USB cable.
However, take a look at the item feedback about leads falling out. I taped my Garmin charger into the socket in the adaptor.
