|
|
I have a DriveAssist 50 LMT-D that has been working well. However, all of a sudden the laptop will not recognise it when I connect with any of my USB cables. I am using Windows 10 and Firefox. I tried Garmin and their help has done no good. Has anyone had this sort of problem and sorted it?

Win10 does have issues with mtp devices, there was also a Win10 'update' a while back that made it even worse.
The simplest way to resolve it is to switch your drive to Mass Storage mode. Or google Win10 mtp issues and you'll find numerous 'fixes'. To switch to mass storage:
1. Start device by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
(may see Configuration and Settings, if so select it)
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down the device and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I have a DriveSmart 50LMT-D. Computer W10. I noticed from day 1, of connecting, that my computer can take up to 5 minutes to recognise the Garmin. I took this as normal, but maybe there are issues causing this that I'm not aware of.
I initially wondered if the battery state, has a bearing on this?
However, not sure if this relates to the problem your'e experiencing. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 50 LMT-D App 5.90

Are people leaving their units in mass storage mode? I just switch to mass storage mode to do a backup and then switch back. Are there any issues with leaving it in mass storage mode? I don't really understand why it has two modes. _________________ Paul |

I leave mine in mass storage all the time, no real downside as far as I know apart from it's easier to mess up the file structure _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I have now!
Between preparing my post 'sussamb' had kindly posted the instructions on how to change to Mass Storage. Many thanks for that. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 50 LMT-D App 5.90

I didn't have a problem, as such. I was always able to connect. It still takes a little time (Even after changing the setting). I've been very busy over the weekend so not been able to do any serious testing, but it might be a W10/Hardware combination causing the delays I'm experiencing.
I was responding, with what I was experiencing, to the OP about the Garmin not being recognised and the length of time that it took to be recognised, just in case that was his problem!
It has just occurred to me, that maybe a recent driver/system update might be the cause of his woes! Has been known! _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 50 LMT-D App 5.90

For comparison, my W10 system takes about 20-25 seconds after plugging in either of my Gs (2569 and 2699) before it 'tot didl oots' at me that's with both in 'Mass Storage' mode, but both fully switched off and about 5 secs less if they are in standby. |

Ok only connected up once this morning, with the unit switched off. Took about the same time 25-30 secs to be recognised by W10.
Certainly an improvement from before. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 50 LMT-D App 5.90
