I have Tom Tom 3 set up running Tom Tom Traffic. I also have a bluetooth headset which I use for voice calls. However, I have noticed that once the phone makes a bluetooth connection for traffic updates, I cannot use the headset and vice versa.
Any ideas on how to release the bluetooth connection once the respective connection is not needed? |

Most phones only allow one bluetooth connection at a time. |

I use TomTom with a BT GPS, 2210 and Nokia 6310i with a BT Headset and haven't had this issue.
The BT Headset uses a different profile to the BT Dial-up so this shouldn't be a problem. What phone is it? _________________ Darren Griffin |

You can have simultaneous BT connections from your phone to the Bluetooth headset and from the phone to the iPAQ? |

I'll test this tomorrow, I can't hold a conversation and have a GPRS data call at the same time as this isn't part of the GPRS Specification but I can maintain a bond with the phone and headset before, and after a GPRS data call from the iPAQ without any issues. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Lets us all know how you managed to support multiple simultaneous BT connections from your phone, my Nokia 6310i and Nokia 6810 will only support one connection, at a time, either my BT headset or the BT GPRS link to the iPAQ. The iPAQ can support simultaneous connections but the phones cannot. _________________ iPAQ 5550, TTN2 & 3, Emtac Jacket GPS |

When I try to establish a second BT connection to my 6310i, it asks if I wish to disconnect the other device. |

According to Page 60 (Bluetooth Connection) of my Nokia 6310i User's Guide...

Bluetooth comes in two versions. 1.0 and 1.1. The older 1.0 only supports one bluetooth connection at a time. Only if all devices are version 1.1 will you be able to use your bluetooth headset and gprs together. I use nokia 6600, bluetrek g2 headset and 4150, and one of these is obviously only bluetooth v1.0. |

There's more flavours of the Bluetooth specification than that - there's a pre-1.0 version, also there's now Bluetooth 1.2 (I've got a 1.2 based setup on my Dell Latitude D600 laptop - the 1.2 firmware/software upgrade released just a few weeks ago, and it's based around Widcomm 3.0 software - Widcomm 1.4 software is Bluetooth 1.1).
I'm pretty sure that whilst Bluetooth 1.1 and upwards allows multiple simultaneous connections to or from a device, they don't mandate multiple connection support. I'd think most phones are Bluetooth 1.1 - but I'm not aware of any that support multiple simultaneous connections.
I'm sticking with my 6310i for now. Hopefully there'll be a reasonable 3G handset that supports GPRS and 3G packet data over Bluetooth within another 6-12 months - then I may consider upgrading. An alternative would be to get one of those Vodafone 3G data cards, but, being Cardbus, they will only work in the laptop, and not the Pocket PC. That would leave me SIM swapping if I wanted to use the rather attractive data tariff with the Pocket PC.

Sony Ericsson T68 phone, iPAQ 3870 and SE HBH60 BT Headset. Can only have one active BT connection to phone at one time. Just tested my combo. |

As far as I know the only Mobile Phone that supports 2 BT connections at a time is the Sony Ericsson P800/P900.
The XDA is a different kettle of fish as it is a proper PDA, as well as a phone. Thought the BT stack implementation leaves a lot to be desired. _________________ Mike Barrett |
