i would like to know whether it's possible to use tomtom wired also for hiking, without being connected to the car, to cigarette lighter.

I am afraid that it is not practical, as the GPS needs power to provide a signal and it get that from the cigar lighter.

it means that gps wired is different from gps cf, by the wire it doesn't get power . is it right ?

There are essentially 3 different ways to connect a GPS to your PDA: Wired (also known as serial), CF/SD, or Bluetooth. The later 2 derive thier power from either the PDA, or from thier own battery source. The former is normally used in a car and gets its power from the cigar lighter.

The exception to this is when you connect a traditional handheld GPS such as a Garmin to the PDA. This is still wired, but the GPS has it's own power supply.
