On a 2699 there is a file "Speed cameras.gpi" (approx 2mb) in the POI folder. I think this is where the speed camera details are.
I also know that the downloaded database from here had mp3 files and not wav. Is this why the voice commands are not working? Do I have to individually convert each mp3 to wav or is there a batch way to do it? |

On this site, where you download the cameras, there is a drop-down list "Available Voice Packs" where you can select the type of voice warning files to be included along with your download.

Reminder - when you get your .wav files, simply put them on your PC (unzipped) in the same folder as your camera files (.csv or .gpx) and your icons (.bmp).
Then simply process the whole lot with PoiLoader to load up your SD card or device.

Does anyone know if POI Loader is compatible with Windows 10? I am in the transformation stage of leaving my mac and returning to a Windows laptop and none of the POI's (the free downloads AND Speed cams) show on my 2699. However, when I copied the same files over to the mac using a memory stick, the POI's transferred and all show on screen.
Any thoughts anyone? |

Yes I can certainly confirm that PoiLoader works just fine with Windows 10.
Obviously you need to change to the version "PoiLoader for Windows" from the Garmin download site (which is version 2.7.3 as of Nov 07, 2013 according to Garmin but 29.10.13 according to my .exe).
PoiLoader should tell you that there were xxx poi's successfully installed. Don't you get this message?

Thanks dales. Yes, I do get that message and they do show as installed on the unit but they don't show on the map.
As an aside, there are two maps shown, both with ticks next to them. I've not got my unit with me at the moment but both are europe maps and one of them is 'foursquare'. Possibly the POI's are being installed on one rather than the one being used? Should one be disabled? If so, which one? |

Both those maps should remain ticked and will have no impact. POIs will only show when you zoom in, have you tried that? Also is your map detail set to More? Camera POIs don't show on mine unless I'm travelling towards them. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Just got home and seen replies. Both maps ticked and have now selected the 'more' option. Will see how it works from now.
Thanks |

I double-checked the download version etc and can report that, using POI loader from my Win 10 laptop, did NOT update the POI files on my 2699 which were installed from my (soon to be sold) mac.
I am not convinced that POI loader is properly installed on my laptop. When I tried updating the latest camera database last night, it confirmed that it had copied x number of files but they haven't updated on my device. For example, some camera's which have been verified since the last database release show their new status on the PGPSW site but are still showing as unverified on my device! |

Remember that the database for download is only updated on a Wednesday. So on Thursday evening you uploaded to the Garmin, but anything that was verified on Thursday and probably most of Wednesday, will show as Verified on the PGPSW database but not so on the Garmin.
If you plug your Garmin into the computer, you can browse its memory using File Explorer. Inside the folder Garmin / Poi you should find the .gpi file which holds your poi's from PoiLoader. There should only be one such file, and its Date Modified should be yesterday's date.
If the file's date IS yesterday's, then that would corroborate the message from PoiLoader that the poi's were successfully loaded. Depending on the database used, there might be around 12,000 to 16,000 camera poi's and plus your own "tourist" poi's (as a rough check on the message from PoiLoader).
If the file's date is older, then something strange has happened to yesterday's upload. Try loading it again, and note carefully the second screen. Where it says Device, it should show "nuvi 2699 (unit ID nnn)" or you may have to open the drop-down list to select your unit. (You can select your SD card if you prefer).

The other thing to check is that POIloader is looking at the same folder where the latest downloaded and unzipped csv files are.
If your device is reporting different cameras and statuses then something is amiss, especially if the unit via POIloader is reporting success.
Strart over, use POILoader option 2 to remove all existing cameras then use it option 1 to load the new set. _________________ DashCam:
