Tomtom rider that supports PGPW camera alerts V5?

Hi all I wonder if you can help.

Huge frustration today when I received my Tomtom rider 40.
The sole purpose is for PGPSW camera alerts.
The Tomtom website said that it supported 3rd party POI and the PGPSW install instructions said that the database was compatable with all Rider sat navs.

so imagine my dismay to find that is not the case.

I am hoping that I may be able to return the the $0 an either replace it with a V5 or get a refund.

Can anyone confirm if the V5 will accept the PGPSW alerts with sounds

The consensus is that none of the latest TomToms support the PGPSW database in the manner that you would want them to. Just fine if you want to navigate to a camera, but as much use as a chocolate teapot for camera alerts. They don't.
If you bought it from an on [s]lie[/s] line source, the Distance Selling rules (or whatever they have been renamed to) gives you the right to return it for a full refund for no other reason other than you just don't want it.

can you define "latest" tomtom" devices for me please?

whats really frustrating is that would, of course expect TomTom to spin their sales talk and say that the device accepts 3rd party POI (well technically it does)
But to check on the database here and see that in the installation section it gives the install method for ALL RIDER MODELS.

but using the install section where it lists th e tomtom models that are not supported I then googled "adding 3rd party poi to tomtom rider 40"
The tomtom page I came to then tells you there is a different method for adding POI for various models including the models listed on your page and the rider 40/400.
I am hoping that as the rider v5 originally came out 2013 it should be ok but it would be great if some one could confirm this

It's difficult to pinpoint models because TT have been reusing old model numbers to further confuse things.

What appears to be happening is that TT must have signed an exclusivity deal with their camera provider because the functionality for third party speed cameras has been absent for some years now.

TT do indeed advertise user POI's but they are referring to places like McDonalds and garden centres where you only need to know where they are to navigate to.

Speed camera POI's, to be of any use, need an advance warning system with visual and spoken alerts. TT have stopped that functionality that they used to allow quite well.

Hopefully that explains the TT position.

As you have the TomTom Rider in your possession, may I suggest that you are the best person to establish whether the Camera Poi's work or not?

I would guess that they shall not.

This has been a hot topic for the last three years at least. I'm surprised you haven't noticed any of the previous conversations on internet forums before now.

Hi had the same issue so when it became time to change from my rider 2 I went to my local Halfords. They where very helpful (must have hit upon the correct person cuss the last tine they where as much use as a chocolate fireguard) they even rang TT for me there and then and confirmed the Camera POI from here will not work!
So I now have a Garmin and they work fine.
