Apart from having the perception of increased quality, hence the price difference, which is the best device? I am hard pressed to identify significant differences in the features. Not interested in BT hands free as my car does that satisfactorily. |

I would go for the 2599 or even the 2699 if you want the bigger screen. The 3598 does seem to have some issues, as reported here from time to time.
The 2599 has the traffic receiver built in so is neater as it only has the single cable as opposed to the 3598 power lead with the aerial as a plug in extension. _________________ DashCam:

The 3598 is now very difficult to get hold of as it has been quietly discontinued by Garmin and will be replaced in their Premium/Prestige nuvi line-up by the nuvicam. At 6inch display size plus a camera this is significantly larger and heavier than the 2599.
Given Garmin take about 6 months to get the firmware working properly on their nuvis then the 2599 is probably the best option. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

I bought a 3598 LMT-D last year and regret it - it is heavy and uses very powerful magnets to connect it to the support bracket. I also have a 2589 which is much lighter and does not have huge magnets to be careful of. |

I have a 3598-D and 2699 - the build is better on the 3598D and I love the magnetic mount
But choose to use the 2699 because of the larger and brighter screen, and improved software
Anticipating the new DigiCam Nav which will have a (revised) magnetic mount, and hopefully a build somewhere between the two
So I would recommend the 2699 over the 3598 particularly as around £100 less _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

Thank you all for your advice. Used the money saved from buying a 3598 and got a 2699. Excellent bright screen and 1" larger as well. |

I am in a similar boat. I am planning to buy my first garmin car satnav and thought I was settled on the 3598.
My other choice is the 2598.
What reasons would I want to choose the 2598 over the 3598?
I like the sound of the higher res screen, and whilst not jumping up and down in excitement over the mag mount, as I can see it being tedious grabbing the 3598 out of my hand (does it auto align as it it dragged into place?) I do like the idea of the USB not plugging into the satnav body itself. So accidents (broken connectors) can be replaced.
Are there any issues with the USB on a 2598 wearing/breaking?
The 2598 though has built in traffic receiver though yes?
So no bulky power/antenna cables going to it?
Does the 2598 have the same on screen functionality as the 3598, ie the split screen with the photo junction and lane views, and what's coming up next?
Is 2598 pinch zoom too?
Is voice control same on both? (seems to be from my searching)
Are there any reported issues with the 2598, like the locking/greyed maps on the 3598?
I'm keen to make the right choice as I have had my previous go910 since they came out, nigh on a decade. That experience has not been with some frought times, but it has done fairly well. And survived a few physical beatings too!

The mag mount does auto align. I have a 2508 and seen no issues with connector in the 2 years I've had it. My earlier satnavs are also showing no signs of damage.
2598 has a built in traffic receiver, not a camera receiver, and split screen, junction view etc.
Can't comment on voice control as mine doesn't have it.
Not seen any issues concerning gray screen on the 2xxx models. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks. I corrected my typo about the camera in my post, whoops. |

Oh. And how do I know what max size microSD card each can take?
(or what size is best to get)
Found a manual for the 3598 yesterday but it was lacing in such detail. |

Found this:
Quote: | The 3500 series is completely different from a hardware point of view. It has a high resolution glass multi-touch screen like a smartphone. So you can use gestures to zoom, tilt and rotate the map in 3d. It also shows true 3d terrain so you can see roads winding up over mountains and down into the valleys. |
is the 3D view description correct? I do like the sound of that as I spend a lot of time in the mountains.
This sort of info I find is almost or completely imposible to detect from the marketing blurb and comparisons.
