TomTom launches the Trucker 6000 a 6" touch screen SatNav tailored specifically for HGV drivers. The Trucker 6000 has a special European map for trucks. This map helps you find the quickest and safest route for your vehicle type, size, weight, cargo and speed.
The Trucker 6000 also has the usual TomTom Live Traffic built in via an integrated GSM modem. The traffic is free for one year after which a subscription is required.
Priced at £319.99 it is available from the TomTom online store and other retailers. The Trucker is £20 more expensive than the equivalent non-truck version making it reasonably priced to avoid getting stuck in a lane suitable only for cars or reaching a bridge which is not possible to pass. The down side is that you do not get lifetime traffic and the Truck Maps only cover a selected number of countries in Europe. It is not clear if non-truck maps are included in the lifetime update offer.
The full TomTom press release follows:
Get the most out of driving time, through truck-specific routing and world-class TomTom Traffic information ~
London, 2nd June 2015 TomTom today introduces the all-new TomTom TRUCKER 6000, a portable navigation device specifically designed for people who drive large vehicles for a living. The TomTom TRUCKER ensures that drivers are on the right road because it includes customised routes for the user’s specific vehicle type, size, weight, cargo and speed.
Through award-winning TomTom Traffic* and advanced routing technology, drivers get a realistic ETA based on vehicle profile and real-time traffic information.
The TomTom TRUCKER informs drivers about traffic and speed cameras** on their route – the information is displayed in the route bar on the device – making users aware of the position of speed cameras, but also the back end of traffic jams.
Corinne Vigreux, co-founder and managing director, TomTom Consumer commented: “One of the most important things is for truckers to be able to complete deliveries on time. That’s why we designed the TomTom TRUCKER with truck-specific routing, and world-class TomTom Traffic information, to enable them to be as efficient as possible with the limited time they are allowed to drive. It’s all part of our mission to get people to where they want to be, faster.”
To avoid unnecessary surprises, the TomTom TRUCKER comes with Lifetime*** Truck Maps at no extra cost. Users can always drive with the latest truck maps – updated four times per year. Other features include Advance Lane Guidance, which clearly shows which lane to take at junctions, and Speak & Go, which allows the driver to control the device with their voice.
The device has a 6” fully interactive screen – simply pinch, zoom and swipe – and it can be docked and undocked easily with the unique Click & Go magnetic mount.
The TomTom TRUCKER is also designed to be taken out of the professional driving environment and into the family car.
TomTom TRUCKER 6000 is available from the second week of June, across Europe, on the TomTom webstore, as well as retailers including Halfords. RRP is £319.99.
Well my 6000 custom POI dont work nearly as well as on my 920. Reguarding downloading PGPS CAMERAS DATA BASE well thats a waste of time at the moment cus of the lack of sound alerts that can be tagged to em like l could before. Just hope TT get there finger out to enable the custom POI better. What a massive cock up this has been on the 6000. Poor decition to not have BETTER custom features before release and too long in eventualy putting it back on although it still aint as good as before for downloading from PGPS.
