The new Honda Civic, model year 2015 now has Garmin as the navigation tool with Garmin traffic built into the 7" Android based Honda Connect head unit.
Free map updates for 5 years.
I'm looking forward to next March when I p/x my current one.
Other details are a bit sketchy at the moment whether it will take POI's like the PND's. Once we get some users on the Civinfo website I'm going to grill them _________________ DashCam:

My dad has just picked up his new 2015 CRV with the Honda Android Garmin factory fit unit fitted, only had a quick play but seems a very nice bit of kit.
Was going to start a new thread but thought I would post on here, does anyone know if it does/or will support the PGPSW speed camera alerts?
Any possibility of the Garmin ones working or is there more to it than that? |

I forgot about this post.
Since then I've been keeping up to date on user experiences on Civinfo. It seems that the unit is totally locked down. You cannot upload POI's. You cannot upload your own vehicle icon, etc. There is no SD card facility to do anything.
Honda have also stopped the current turn by turn info from being displayed on the eye level iMid so you need to take your eyes and peripheral vision off the road to look down.
It also comes with the inferior TMC RDS traffic.
Not good.
I'll watch how it progresses during the year. _________________ DashCam:

Thanks for reply,
Surely there must be a way to get into system? It has preloaded pois on it so would there be a way of deleting those and overwriting with PGPSW cameras?
How are map updates done? Any way of adding new pois when this is done?
Would make an excellent addition if this can be done. |

All it will allow is access to the Honda approved app store which at the moment is very limited. Presumably map updates are on the approved list or maybe it's a dealer thing at service time.
You cannot install from Googles Play Store.
It's early days yet and it will improve I'm sure. Civinfo has a CRV section but I think the Civic section will have the most info. _________________ DashCam:

Salesman tells me that it is a Garmin unit in my W205 C-Class. Does anyone know if it is possible to upload the CamerAlert database and if so how? |

All I know is that on the Honda it's integrated into the Android head unit and is linked to various controls/switches via the vehicle CANBUS.
The integration will be different but on the Honda the answer is no. We have had other queries re Merc integration so maybe dig out a Merc forum. _________________ DashCam:

You can. But you will get alerts only, no icons.
See my other threads for details. |
