how long for GPS fix day to day?

Seems like my tom tom 3 wired kit takes ages to get a fix every time I use it. Just have the generic tom tom holder as teh 4150 specific wasn't in stock, so the GPS isn't powered all the time (wouldn't be anyway as my cigarette lighter isn't powered when the car is off)

Is this the problem (power off loosing lock or something)? Does the GPS have a backup battery and if so, does it take a while to fully charge? - only used it for a couple of local trips so far.

The TT Gps Mouse (A Leadtek) is normally very efficient at aquiring a satellite lock. Even if switched oiff in between use it should take less than a minute or so as it has an internal backup battery and so retains almanac and ephemeris data.

What car do you use this in and where is the receiver located? It could be an issue with your vehicle windscreen degrading reception?
