Hi,
I have an old ONE XL with Map Version 710.1571 (2007ish) I have just hooked it up to my computer via HOME & it says I can get a years maps for £24.....my question is, is it worth updating the maps on such an old unit? |

Do you still use it? If no, then the answer is no. If yes, do you want to drive on outdated maps? What are your alternatives? Buy a new satnav?
So many questions. |

Hi,
I haven't been using it hence the old maps, but I am looking to use one/it again, so I wouldn't want the old maps.
I have been using my iPhone 4 with Navfree running on it but it seems abit poor compared to a dedicated unit.
I suppose my question should be, Is the ONE XL worth upgrading for £24,is the unit still capable or has technology changed that much?

TomTom technology has changed and frankly you might possibly find it worse than you already have (because they have reduced the functionality of later units).
I think £24 for up to date mapping would be a complete bargain AND I don't believe it! I think you would find that the £24 is payable AFTER you have first upgraded your present very old map which will be quite a bit more - I'd guess it will cost you closer to £50 to get the updated map and then the year's supply of maps to follow.
I could be wrong and £24 is everything. However, even at a more likely £50 it is cheaper than a new satnav, so I'd say go for it. _________________ Dennis

OK, looks pretty good to me, although I can't understand why they are not charging to update your existing ancient map. I still say go for it. _________________ Dennis

Absolute bargain! They must be getting really hard up letting this go so cheaply. Back in the good old days (when TomToms worked) they would charge for a new map, then the £45 for the update service on top - I seem to remember paying close to £80 for my GO700.
Of course, they always do a fire sale when new maps are due out - next one is due inside a fortnight. They don't sell the yearly update service for my Renault R-Link TomTom, so it'll cost me £55 to get the next map (if I bother - the GPS loses signal so often a map isn't a lot of use!). _________________ Dennis

With Garmin having 'free' lifetime maps thrown in with most models now I guess TT felt they had to respond |

Chalk and pears - we're talking old existing devices, not new ones (except the ********* Renault R-Link TomTom, which is newer than the TT GO6000). _________________ Dennis
